Robins are known for their willingness to approach humans. I find them my almost constant companions whilst gardening.
Blackbirds tend to be a little more reserved. But today one approached me very close as I dug and weeded a small suburban garden . It was clearly looking for worms or insects disturbed by my activities.
But it's level of confidence is not what I would typically expect from a blackbird. Tolerance of my presence is more normal. But coming so close set me wondering why. I have some or ornitholigical training so I speculated that this bird has chicks to feed and the pressure of that is overcoming natural shyness.
I looked up a little later to see him up on the fence with a mouth full of worms. He flew off purposefully without eating any of the worms.
To a nest nearby I suspect.
